THE SITTER:

Name: Unidentified

Description: In this head-and-shoulders portrait, a young woman is dressed in a white, lace blouse with large sleeves. Her hair was been pulled to the back of her head and two curls adorn her forehead. Around her neck is a distinctive, high, black, band collar. This collar and the corsage of carnations that adorn her left shoulder, are traditionally associated with mourning rituals and suggest that this portrait may have been taken in the memory of a departed loved one.
