Biographical Note: Sheppard arrived in California by 1880 and was employed in various occupations in various cities throughout the state. In 1888 he was listed as a photographer in Petaluma and he produced many fine cabinet card portraits during his stay.

Description: Cabinet card an unidentified woman's bust. The woman has short curly bangs and the rest of her hair is pulled back. She is wearing what appears to be a silk dress with pleating down the chest and on the sleeves. There is a flower brooch pinned at the base of her neck, and she is wearing a choker necklace. The photographer, Lafayette Sheppard, was only in Petaluma for one year in 1888.
