THE PHOTOGRAPHER/ PHOTOGRAPHIC STUDIO:

LA MOTTE STUDIO, On October 4, 1907 the Petaluma Argus- Courier reported that W. L. Shattuck had purchased Brown’s photographic studio on Main Street and after its renovation would be known as La Motte Studio. The paper reported exactly two years later, on October 4 of 1909, that the studio had been sold. Name: Unidentified

Description: Smiling slightly, this baby sits calmly in a wooden spindle back chair. The baby holds its left hand at its side and looks patiently up and to the right. The baby wears a white dress with a scalloped hem and a necklace from which hangs a prominent cross.

Medium: matte collodion photographic print with embossed rectangular cardstock mount

Description, front: This portrait has been placed within the embossed, dark gray, vertical rectangle of a lighter gray card. Embossed on a diagonal at the bottom right corner of the card is the La Motte Studio imprint.

Description, back: The back of this cabinet card is either blank or contains only the portrait’s accession number.

Date: October 1907 - October 1909

Condition: This cabinet card is soiled and has several, small, black dots in the center bottom.
